January 2021

 This is late because, believe it or not, at the end of the month, we had our baby. I say we, I guess I should take some credit for taking all the pain medication and pushing her out (with a little help from the ventouse in the end). She is perfect and beautiful and, well exhausting to be honest. It's been a week and we're just getting the hang of this whole parenting thing. Every day feels like a week, this week has felt like a year. We have this gorgeous tiny bundle who (cries so much) we both love so much and we're getting through it together. 

It's so surreal looking over the crap tv I watched this month and all the 2020 movies I tried to cram in that I'd missed. So yeah, I don't think these lists are going to be as thorough or full but I'm still going to keep it up, hopefully. Even if it's sparse. It's a reflection of my life and things have changed. I'll be okay.

December 2020

I usually do end of year lists and give out awards but I just don't think I have it in me this year. Plus it's hard to rate films from 2020 given that I have barely seen any, Letterboxd says I've watched 62 dated that year (I made a supreme effort to watch some this month!) but it doesn't feel I've fully had the experience. I miss the cinema so much but there was no way I was going out even when I didn't have to worry about my onboard passenger. It wouldn't really have been the same anyways. It's been a bit of a rough month with the pregnancy also. 

Obviously watched a bunch of Christmas movies given the season, most of them rewatches because, what can I say, I resorted to comfort. I also managed to sneak a couple of books in too. Made me realise how little I've read this year, weirdly the two books I read were pretty easy and fun reads. I just need to find the right books.

Officially one more month until the baby arrives. 2021 is going to be a weird year. I'm optimistic though.

November 2020

Hey look, a month of lockdown. Always in the house, barely going out. Growing a burgeoning bump which is starting to get much more cumbersome by the day. We've started antenatal classes and they are an information overload, it's been more tiring than I expected. Also the prospect of Christmas is just upsetting me at this point. I've been feeling down lately. Hopefully it'll get better, I usually get an upswing after one of these periods but there's so many external factors beyond my control. I'm trying my best.

This month I binged a lot of tele. Loved The Queen's Gambit, it was very much comfort food period drama, speaking of The Crown also had a new season which was in a similar vein. Gillian Anderson's Maggie was pretty terrible but the rest was fun in a soap opera way. I've also become addicted to The Baby Yoda Show, weirdly compulsive viewing! We watched The Haunting of Hill House which was more tragic than spooky in a good way and we're finally getting around to watching The Sopranos. The Undoing ended up being a bit of a damp squib. I got nothing else.

October 2020

So Halloween was a bit of a damper with a new countrywide lockdown being put in place. I'm 6 months along so there's no reason for me to go out and I'm borderline third trimester which puts me in the highly vulnerable category. I shouldn't be going out anyways, I should just stay in for my own safety. That's the right thing to do and it's pretty much what I've done throughout, being lucky enough to work from home. Even knowing these things, all of this still makes me feel extremely sad. It's difficult to know why but I suddenly feel listless and lost and... Things aren't getting better, they're getting worse. The future feels very scary and I've only just considered that at some point I'm going to have to go through labour. I know that's dumb, but that whole taking it one day at a time thing has fried my brain.

I've been working through TV shows. It turns out I haven't seen as much Bob's Burgers as I originally thought so I'm marking them as unwatched. I also burned through, Emily in Paris, The Witcher and Succession (the latter of which I only have a couple episodes left of). I also made a supreme effort to watch spooky movies in honour of the season. I'm terrible at scary stuff so I felt super proud. This month has gone by extremely quickly in hindsight.

September 2020

Another month gone and not much to report. Mostly confined to the house, mostly just tired and a bit achy. The more rules and lockdowns, the more tired I feel. It's clear that the next few months are going to be dark and difficult with everything going on and I really wish I had more people around me to distract me from my thoughts sometimes. I just keep thinking the worst is going to happen but she's still in there. We had a scan and they said it was a girl but they did stress it's not 100% accurate. I can feel her moving every now and again, it's lovely.

Read a really long book about JFK's dad which felt like an achievement and was weirdly fascinating, I loved early 20th century as it turns out. Also starting watching Succession and then it won all those Emmys so bandwagon here we go. Also watching my partner play The Witcher III which is quite an endeavour and I felt obliged to watch the tv show even though it's not nearly as good.

August 2020

 Turned 30 this month and finally left the house and went out for a meal and a short break at our wedding venue as a belated anniversary. We had the floors done and my Chris Messina obsession came to an end after watching a bunch of his movies. Otherwise, still pregnant (now 4 months along) and it's so great. Apart from the persistent worry I'm doing something wrong.
