June 2021

Another long month. We're getting there with the feeding but that just means weaning is around the corner. We've also moved baby into the cot in the nursery and it's going okay on a night, just struggling with the naps. All these things keep happening and I'm worried about returning to work. I feel so light-headed most of the time nowadays. I feel untethered, like I could float away at any given moment. I'm not sure where I'd float away to.

Given my struggle keeping my head straight I've not been consistent in my culture-crunching. I have watched more Brooklyn Nine-Nine than I've noted I just forgot to jot them down. Love Island has started again and I am embarrassed to say I'm watching it, but there's not a looker among the bunch, or any gays, don't know why I bother.

May 2021

I think I'm starting to feel like myself, I have more days where I feel okay than not so I'm calling it a win. It's hard to find time to watch stuff and settle but I'm okay with it. Baby is starting to smile and grab and explore the world around her which is fun to see. Plus we think she's sleeping through the night, she had a few early wake-ups then decided she was happy waking up between 5-6am and it's just become the norm (for a week but those last forever).  

I finally got over watching The Circle, I tried the Brazil version (after loving the French one) but couldn't finish the first episode and just never came back to it. This month I managed to finally read a full book and I played Final Fantasy VIII for the 50th time in my life. Then I got addicted to Soul Calibur VI which is just mindless fun and easy to stick on for short periods of time when there's a baby about.

April 2021

Baby is now 3 months old. This year is slipping away as it is wont to do. We don't get out much and don't really see many people. The lockdown has made things quiet but also a bit lonely. We've managed to get into a routine and I'm a lot more calm about most things now, or at least I try my best to be calm which is working. She's getting bigger and more vocal and sleeping more consistently. Not moving about much though so still manageable. 

My obsession with The Circle has not yet abated, the season 2 finale of the USA version is released next week, then I have no more left. Unless I can find the other international versions. Otherwise, I've been a bit on and off with watching movies. I'm trying to read a book (which is 800 pages and about the 60s) for History Book Club. I just make sure it's in the same room as me and the baby and try to get some reading done when I can. That and before bed. It's a little bit obsessive but I'm determined to finish this book. It's nice to have a kind of side project and a goal to work towards which isn't just about the baby.

March 2021

 This is the second month of raising a baby. She's getting bigger and chattier and still doesn't do much else apart from sleep, eat and poop. I'm very attached to her though. She falls asleep on me and it's like a really comforting hot water bottle which also snores.

This month I've managed to get into a routine of watching movies on my laptop in the nursery as I sit around with the baby all day. I also have renewed my addiction to The Circle. I get up for the 4-5am feed and watch it then on catch up. It's so compelling! I've also tried to catch up on the 2020 movies I missed, Oscar bait mostly, and some 2021 stuff. I'm starting to feel more like myself even if I can't go to the cinema.

February 2021

 So  this is a super sparse month. Believe it or not, having a new-born baby greatly impacts your life and makes you extremely tired. Also your body is a wreck. And you don't get to sleep at normal times.

The husband keeps watching 'Parks & Rec' and I let it wash over me in the background, I've seen every episode already and I don't think my brain is engaged enough for it to count. Otherwise it's been a lot of trashy movies and also rewatches for the most part. We do not intend to engage our brains and sometimes movies take 2 nights to watch. Also, we love Sandra Bullock in this house.

Did I mention having a baby is really hard?

January 2021

 This is late because, believe it or not, at the end of the month, we had our baby. I say we, I guess I should take some credit for taking all the pain medication and pushing her out (with a little help from the ventouse in the end). She is perfect and beautiful and, well exhausting to be honest. It's been a week and we're just getting the hang of this whole parenting thing. Every day feels like a week, this week has felt like a year. We have this gorgeous tiny bundle who (cries so much) we both love so much and we're getting through it together. 

It's so surreal looking over the crap tv I watched this month and all the 2020 movies I tried to cram in that I'd missed. So yeah, I don't think these lists are going to be as thorough or full but I'm still going to keep it up, hopefully. Even if it's sparse. It's a reflection of my life and things have changed. I'll be okay.

December 2020

I usually do end of year lists and give out awards but I just don't think I have it in me this year. Plus it's hard to rate films from 2020 given that I have barely seen any, Letterboxd says I've watched 62 dated that year (I made a supreme effort to watch some this month!) but it doesn't feel I've fully had the experience. I miss the cinema so much but there was no way I was going out even when I didn't have to worry about my onboard passenger. It wouldn't really have been the same anyways. It's been a bit of a rough month with the pregnancy also. 

Obviously watched a bunch of Christmas movies given the season, most of them rewatches because, what can I say, I resorted to comfort. I also managed to sneak a couple of books in too. Made me realise how little I've read this year, weirdly the two books I read were pretty easy and fun reads. I just need to find the right books.

Officially one more month until the baby arrives. 2021 is going to be a weird year. I'm optimistic though.
