November 2020

Hey look, a month of lockdown. Always in the house, barely going out. Growing a burgeoning bump which is starting to get much more cumbersome by the day. We've started antenatal classes and they are an information overload, it's been more tiring than I expected. Also the prospect of Christmas is just upsetting me at this point. I've been feeling down lately. Hopefully it'll get better, I usually get an upswing after one of these periods but there's so many external factors beyond my control. I'm trying my best.

This month I binged a lot of tele. Loved The Queen's Gambit, it was very much comfort food period drama, speaking of The Crown also had a new season which was in a similar vein. Gillian Anderson's Maggie was pretty terrible but the rest was fun in a soap opera way. I've also become addicted to The Baby Yoda Show, weirdly compulsive viewing! We watched The Haunting of Hill House which was more tragic than spooky in a good way and we're finally getting around to watching The Sopranos. The Undoing ended up being a bit of a damp squib. I got nothing else.

October 2020

So Halloween was a bit of a damper with a new countrywide lockdown being put in place. I'm 6 months along so there's no reason for me to go out and I'm borderline third trimester which puts me in the highly vulnerable category. I shouldn't be going out anyways, I should just stay in for my own safety. That's the right thing to do and it's pretty much what I've done throughout, being lucky enough to work from home. Even knowing these things, all of this still makes me feel extremely sad. It's difficult to know why but I suddenly feel listless and lost and... Things aren't getting better, they're getting worse. The future feels very scary and I've only just considered that at some point I'm going to have to go through labour. I know that's dumb, but that whole taking it one day at a time thing has fried my brain.

I've been working through TV shows. It turns out I haven't seen as much Bob's Burgers as I originally thought so I'm marking them as unwatched. I also burned through, Emily in Paris, The Witcher and Succession (the latter of which I only have a couple episodes left of). I also made a supreme effort to watch spooky movies in honour of the season. I'm terrible at scary stuff so I felt super proud. This month has gone by extremely quickly in hindsight.

September 2020

Another month gone and not much to report. Mostly confined to the house, mostly just tired and a bit achy. The more rules and lockdowns, the more tired I feel. It's clear that the next few months are going to be dark and difficult with everything going on and I really wish I had more people around me to distract me from my thoughts sometimes. I just keep thinking the worst is going to happen but she's still in there. We had a scan and they said it was a girl but they did stress it's not 100% accurate. I can feel her moving every now and again, it's lovely.

Read a really long book about JFK's dad which felt like an achievement and was weirdly fascinating, I loved early 20th century as it turns out. Also starting watching Succession and then it won all those Emmys so bandwagon here we go. Also watching my partner play The Witcher III which is quite an endeavour and I felt obliged to watch the tv show even though it's not nearly as good.

August 2020

 Turned 30 this month and finally left the house and went out for a meal and a short break at our wedding venue as a belated anniversary. We had the floors done and my Chris Messina obsession came to an end after watching a bunch of his movies. Otherwise, still pregnant (now 4 months along) and it's so great. Apart from the persistent worry I'm doing something wrong.

I'm not sure about this month, I've been up and down, laughing and crying. Tired and grumpy. No one reads this so I guess I can say here I'm 3 months pregnant. It's been surreal and I've been binge watching TV and trying to relax, mainly because we still can't leave the house very much. It's safer after all. Plus I'm apparently in love with Chris Messina now.

Another seriously weird month. A lot of it involved reading books, watching documentaries and then getting bored of those things.

Then I played The Last of Us Part II and felt bad. The first half of the game was promising and interesting but then it pivots a bit. I felt that everything was so well made and it had a lot going for it but the writing ended up being insubstantial for the story they were telling. I don't get much out of playing a game where I am left ultimately unhappy and frustrated. Obviously I plugged away until I got the platinum trophy. Now let us never speak of it again.

Another month gone and still here, in the house. I keep thinking things might return to normal but then again it's hard to know what normal will feel like anymore. It doesn't seem possible for things to go back to the way we were. Just have to keep taking each day as it comes.

In other news I finished 2 books this month which felt like an achievement. Also I've replaced comedy specials with documentary films/tv series. I couldn't quite manage Life is Strange 2, it's just too depressing at the moment.

Has it been a month already?

Lucky for me, the Final Fantasy VII Remake dropped this month and kept me more than occupied. I lived and breathed it for a couple weeks until I obtained the platinum trophy. Sure it's trying too hard to stretch out a small section of story, okay it's more of a weird sequel to the Compilation rather than a straight up remake as I would have liked, but damn if I didn't enjoy myself for what it was.

Also my affection for consuming comedy specials while I try and do some work has not subsided. I've tried to read several books and put them down after a couple of chapters which has been a bit frustrating. Apart from that and going out on my bike I haven't done much. What else is there to do?

March 2020

What could I possibly say about March 2020? It has been surreal. I became slightly obsessed with comedy specials and a game called Control. It's about a government funded bureau which has been put into lockdown due to an unknown force infecting everyone and everything making the world seems a bit topsy-turvy. It was weirdly compelling.

February 2020

This month felt really long, even with the extra day. Lots of stuff to do and see and not a lot of time to sit still and reflect even though I clearly got into a rhythm with certain things. I'm tired. Thank God Love Island finished, that ended on a really sad note, plus I've stopped looking at tabloid websites and newspapers to try and take some responsibility for what happened. It has been surprisingly difficult, moreso than giving up meat up Lent. We shall see.

December 2019

It is the end of the end of the year and a time of reflection. I have no complaints and time keeps moving along. I am trying my best and hoping for a good outcome. I've watched a whole lot of movies last year, I like keeping track of everything, it gives me some satisfaction and Letterboxd has been a nice experience.

As is customary I watched the new Star Wars movie at the cinema more than once and became more sad the more I thought about it. Also binge-watched all of the new season of You because Netflix clearly controls my brain. It's one of those things where I must know how it all ends otherwise I'll spend too much time contemplating. I'm very impatient. Otherwise it was a lot of Christmas films and re-watches which were nice.

Been playing Final Fantasy VIII the past few days with my husband. He's never played it before and I'm playing my own game concurrently with him. It's fun to watch him react to the crazy. It was never my favourite Final Fantasy but it definitely has it's charms.
